dekobokoan
凸凹庵
Ms. Shimono, who co-runs the dekobokoan (凸凹庵) atelier with her daughter, was born in Kyoto near the geisha district and grew up admiring the kanzashi (かんざし, Japanese traditional hair accessory) of maiko (geisha apprentice). For that reason, she decided to create dekobokoan, an atelier that offers an artisanal experience of Kyoto's tsumami zaiku (京都つまみ細工) right next to the city's most touristic places.
The traditional "tsumami zaiku" technique, which has existed since the Edo period (1603-1868), consists of folding squares of fabric and gluing them together to create shapes such as flowers. At dekobokoan atelier, you can discover the manufacture of various Japanese accessories such as hairpins and brooches made from pure silk and scraps of kimono fabric. The result will vary depending on the fabric used, the color combination, and how the fabric is folded. You can thus create a unique product according to your tastes.
Regardless of gender or age, people experiment this traditional craft to offer original gifts for their families and friends.
For TSUKUTTE-YA, dekobokoan has specially created flowers and chosen their color variations to offer kits adapted to everyone's tastes and levels.
